My commitment to a
personalized, research-based approach drives the services I provide.
Whether your child is just beginning to show signs of struggle with reading or writing or has faced ongoing challenges for some time, I’m here to help. With over three decades of experience, I’ve worked with a wide range of learners, including students with moderate to severe learning differences, who benefit from individualized, specialized instruction.
Through these years, one truth has remained clear: there is no such thing as “one-size-fits-all” when it comes to teaching literacy. Every student brings a unique learning profile, and effective instruction must be tailored to meet those specific needs.
I ground my teaching in evidence-based practices, carefully selecting strategies that align with each student’s strengths and challenges. I continually assess progress throughout our sessions, using real-time data to guide next steps. If a student isn’t making meaningful gains, I reassess and adapt, whether that means increasing instructional time, adjusting techniques, or even rethinking the instructional approach entirely.
My commitment to professional growth is ongoing. I regularly engage with current research, consult expert resources, and stay active in professional teaching communities. I attend workshops, take continuing education courses, and learn from fellow educators, all to ensure that I bring the most effective, up-to-date strategies to the students I serve.
At the heart of my work is a deep belief in every child’s ability to grow, and a commitment to finding the right path to get them there.

Reading Decoding-Systematic Phonics Instruction
Every student’s reading journey is unique. That’s why I begin with informal assessments to pinpoint specific skill gaps and identify where support is most needed. From there, I create customized lessons using a clear scope and sequence of developmental reading skills, ensuring instruction is both structured and responsive.
My approach incorporates proven, multisensory techniques to strengthen core areas of reading, including: Phonological awareness; Phonics and decoding; Spelling; Fluency and Comprehension.
Each lesson is designed to meet students right where they are, helping them move forward with confidence and clarity.
Note: For students with dyslexia or significant reading difficulties, it is recommended that they receive supplemental instruction 2–3 times per week to make meaningful, lasting progress.
2
Reading Comprehension
Some students can read fluently and decode words with ease, but still struggle to understand or retain what they’ve read. I work with students who need support turning reading into real understanding.
During our sessions, we focus on building the skills that strong readers use every day, like learning and remembering new vocabulary, connecting what they already know to what they’re reading, and understanding how new information fits into the bigger picture.
For students who have difficulty grasping the overall meaning or "big picture" of what they read, I provide explicit instruction in visualization. We work together to describe scenes and scenarios from texts and images, building the ability to form mental pictures and articulate understanding. Over time, students learn how to visualize and verbalize internally, an important skill for independent comprehension.
My goal is to help students feel more confident and capable as readers, so they’re not just reading the words, they’re understanding the meaning behind them.

Writing Instruction
For many students, simply getting ideas onto the page in an organized way can feel like an uphill battle. And for those who struggle with writing, the added steps of revising and proofreading can feel overwhelming. Mastering the craft of writing takes time, support, and consistent practice, something that’s often hard to find in today’s fast-paced classrooms. With packed curricula and limited time, it’s no wonder so many students find writing frustrating.
That’s where I come in.
I guide students through the writing process, from brainstorming and organizing their thoughts to planning with purpose and clarity. Together, we focus on the skills that elevate writing: crafting varied and engaging sentences, using smooth transitions, developing a consistent and appropriate voice, and selecting words that are precise and powerful. I also provide direct instruction in essential mechanics, including grammar, punctuation, and capitalization.
My goal is to equip students with the tools and confidence to write with clarity, intention, and style.
